Nikki Anderson-Joy
Nikki Anderson-Joy is a costume designer based in Tacoma, WA.
She graduated from the Academy of Art University in 2014. She just moved from the Bay Area. She spent a few years assisting costume designers around the Bay Area, she has started designing solo: recent designs including Rime of the Ancient Mariner (Word for Word/ ZSpace) and The Flick Shotgun Players. Other work includes Shotgun Players/TheatreFirst’s Far Far Better Things, TheatreFirst’s The People’s History of Next and Between Us, Campo Santo’s Candlestick, and African American Shakespeare Company’s For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide / When the Rainbow Is Enuf and Jitney. When not designing, Nikki worked as a costume assistant at the San Francisco Opera Costume Shop. Her 2021 design work included the San Francisco Conservatory of Music with Die Fledermaus. She currently works as a Costume Supervisor at the LA Opera.
In her spare time, Nikki loves to illustrate. For her, illustration communicates the way she sees Cities: Simple But Complex. Her distinct style is to create a composition in black and white using the matter of line to tell the story. Deep down, it is up to the viewer to know what is seen.
